For nearly 70 years, HumanKind Ministries has brought the community together for the Humanitarian Awards to celebrate individuals and organizations doing exceptional work to help the less fortunate—everyday people going out of their way to help someone just because it’s the right thing to do. We hope you are as touched by their work as we have been and inspired to spread kindness in your own way!

Paxton Burns

Light the Way Youth Award

Paxton was just six years old when he and his mom placed a box full of nonperishable foods in their front yard for anyone in need to take from, no questions asked. He believes everyone deserves access to food and other basic needs and wants to bring hope to those in need, one blessing at a time. Four years on and there are now 75 boxes in 7 states across the US—and counting!

Wichita Area Builders Association

Golden Rule Award

While Wichita Area Builders Association is well-known in our region, you might not have heard about their philanthropic program, Home Builders Care, which provides in-kind donations of both materials and labor to local nonprofits. These donations are critical in enabling nonprofits to accomplish urgent and necessary construction and remodeling projects and are a great service to the Wichita community.

ICT Food Rescue

Leadership Through Action Award

Stephanie Merritt, Executive Director of ICT Food Rescue distributes unavoidable food surplus to nonprofits serving the food insecure of Wichita. Across the nation, about 40 percent of food we create goes into the trash. ICT Food Rescue takes that excess food from restaurants, grocers and the like and gives it to organizations that serve our region’s most vulnerable residents.

Are you as inspired as we are by the important work they are doing in our community? Buy a ticket here to celebrate our three award winners and HK’s 135th anniversary on August 22,2020.
