HumanKind Ministries operates one year-round homeless shelter and two Emergency Winter Shelter in Wichita, KS (one each for men and women). These shelters serve approximately 1,200 struggling men, women and children each year. Above and beyond basic needs, HumanKind Ministries offers clients support and guidance to connect them with community resources and to develop the life skills needed to achieve and maintain a healthy and stable home life.

The Inn, powered by HumanKind
The Inn is a 24-hour, full-service facility, providing shelter, meals, clothing and other basic living essentials for individuals, single parents and families.
Opened on Valentine’s Day in 1985, The Inn can provide shelter and meals and is almost always full. Some have been on the streets for years while others find themselves without a place to stay for the first time in their lives. Case management staff provides support to the clients that helps them address their unique challenges, find and maintain permanent housing, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
We ask that clients call ahead to confirm bed availability. If you are unable to call ahead, walk-up times are 10 am, 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Men's Emergency Winter Shelter
Opening for the season: November 8, 2021
The need for a homeless shelter is greater than our year-round capacity, so for the coldest months of the year, HumanKind Ministries operates the no-barrier Men’s Emergency Winter Shelter to provide dinner, breakfast, clean clothes and a safe, warm, dry place to sleep for anyone who needs it.

In addition to food and shelter, through partnerships with local health clinics, we are able to offer basic medical and preventative care at the Emergency Winter Shelter. These partnerships have resulted in fewer illnesses and fewer visits to the emergency room.

Women's Emergency Winter Shelter

The Women’s Emergency Winter Shelter operates within Villa Central and provides the same services as the Men’s Emergency Winter Shelter. We typically have capacity for 45 women or handicapped men here but we do not turn anyone away.
