Today the Multi-Agency Center (MAC) Governance Board announced that HumanKind Ministries (HK) will operate the first six months of the MAC’s year-round homeless shelter, starting April 1. The HumanKind Board, staff and volunteers are honored to support this launch stage as the MAC completes renovation on the facility and prepares its request for proposal for permanent shelter management.
“HK opened the Emergency Winter Shelter in this facility last November, and we are very pleased that we can help the MAC transition the operation from emergency shelter to year-round shelter services,” said HK President and CEO Dawn Shepler. “Our community’s focus on homelessness has never been greater, and with the MAC, we are making monumental strides forward to achieve our goal of functional zero.”
“Having the HK campus adjacent to the MAC creates tremendous opportunity for collaboration between our organizations. Between us and our fellow community partners, we can offer a continuum of services that help our clients achieve security and long-term stability,” Shepler continued.
“HK’s mission is built on four major pillars: affordable housing, outreach, shelter services and Operation Holiday,” Shepler said. “While HK’s work with the MAC supports our shelter services pillar, we are equally focused on the outreach and housing pillars of our mission, including our $5.1 million Forward Together capital campaign to renovate and enhance 155 apartment units on the HK campus.”
“Between the wraparound services soon to be offered at the Multi-Agency Center (MAC) supported by the City of Wichita and the MAC Governance Board, as well as its nonprofit partners — and the multiple types of housing offered by HumanKind — we can offer the most vulnerable among us a way to find stability and self-sufficiency,” said Dawn Shepler, HumanKind President and CEO. “It’s an exciting time for HumanKind and we hope the community will be generous in helping us make this a reality.”
