Our two Emergency Winter Shelters (EWS) opened on Thursday, November 1, and will remain open through March 31, regardless of holidays or weather. Each client receives a bed, dinner, breakfast, and access to a closet of donated toiletries, gently used clothing, and winter wear. Clients also receive case management services to help with housing, job searches, referrals to mental health, and more. Both shelters also offer basic health care services at a nurse’s station open on Mondays and Thursdays.
Last year we served over 1,000 unduplicated individuals at our EWS. One of our goals this year is to transition more individuals to our year-round shelter from the nightly services at the EWS—this allows us to provide more intensive, wrap-around services to help them transition out of homelessness more rapidly.
We need meal sponsors in December and January wherein your group purchases, prepares and serves meals for up to 120 people. Volunteers are also needed to help run the donation closets on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
